March - April 2017

The National Philharmonic “Serghei Lunchevici” in Chișinău hosted the solo exhibition Times by the distinguished Moldovan master painter Eleonora Romanescu. Organised in partnership with the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Moldova, the Romanian Cultural Institute, Cultural Center ARTELIT, and Bronze-Elit, the exhibition celebrated the enduring legacy of one of Moldova’s most important artists.

Eleonora Romanescu (1926–2019) was a central figure in 20th-century Moldovan painting, renowned for her lyrical landscapes, expressive still lifes, and portraits that captured both intimacy and depth. A graduate of the prestigious Ilya Repin Institute of Painting, Sculpture and Architecture in Saint Petersburg, she developed a style that combined academic training with a vibrant personal vision, marked by rich colour palettes and a profound sensitivity to light and atmosphere.

Throughout her long career, Romanescu’s works were exhibited widely at home and abroad, earning her recognition as one of the defining voices of Moldovan fine art. Times offered audiences a rare opportunity to revisit her artistic journey, highlighting both iconic pieces and lesser-known works that reflect her mastery and devotion to painting.
